KUALA LUMPUR: A High Court has ordered the former consultant of National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFCorp), Shamsubahrin Ismail, to stop publishing statements about the company’s executive chairman on Facebook.
The interim injunction was issued by Justice Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab yesterday following six allegedly defamatory Facebook postings against Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail between May 19 and June 23.
The interim injunction is valid until Monday, when the court will hear arguments from both parties.
Lawyers Al Firdaus Shahrul Naing, who represented Salleh, also told the court that they would be applying to disqualify counsel Zarina Ismail from representing Shamsubahrin.
On July 3, Mohamad Salleh filed a suit against his former consultant for the alleged defamatory postings.
Mohamad Salleh is seeking damages for libel, malicious falsehood, aggravated and exemplary damages as well as an injunction to remove the statements and pre-vent similar postings.
He had claimed that Shamsubahrin was angry because he had been convicted by a Sessions Court on May 18 for cheating.
Shamsubahrin had been sentenced to eight years jail and ordered to be whipped four times for cheating Mohamad Salleh.
Shamsubahrin’s appeal against the judgment is pending in the High Court.
