PKR Youth vice-chief Fahmi Fadzil says Cheras division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Al-Habshee’s statement showed that he continued to practise an ancient political culture where no one should question anything.
KUALA LUMPUR Oct 16, 2014:
PKR Youth has slammed Datuk Seri Syed Ali Al-Habshee for stating that the upcoming #RakyatHakimNegara campaign should be scrapped as it was mocking the country’s judiciary.
In a statement, today, the wing’s vice-chief Fahmi Fadzil said that the Umno Cheras division chief’s statement showed that he continued to practise an ancient political culture where no one should question anything.
“This only indicates that he does not understand the Federal Constitution and existing laws.”
Fahmi, who is also PKR’s communications director, emphasised that the right to peaceful assembly and the right to speak or express their views was a fundamental right enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
Even questioning the system or the law as the basis and cornerstone of democracy, he said, should always be upheld and activated.
“This arises from questioning things and only then can the people’s interests be defended and guaranteed, and tyranny fought against.”
Fahmi then called on Malaysians to neither be afraid nor be dismayed to jointly declare their stance and support for PKR de fecto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 28 and 29.
On Tuesday, PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad launched the 14-day #RakyatHakimNegara campaign in the lead-up to Anwar’s sodomy appeal hearing that is scheduled to be heard by the Federal Court.
The hearing is expected to generate massive gatherings in front of the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya on both days.
However, in a blog post yesterday, Syed Ali urged police to take action against the organisers as PKR de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was not a special individual who was immune to the law.
